BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana sophomore Lauren Wyckoff was named Western Division Player of the Week, announced on Monday by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). Wyckoff scored 11 goals to help lead the Hoosiers (9-6, 4-0 CWPA West) to four convincing CWPA Western Division wins over the weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich. Indiana also increased their overall winning streak to eight games.
Wyckoff started the weekend with a two goal, two assist, and one steal performance against Washington & Jefferson in the Hoosiers' 14-1 win. She followed that with three goals, all coming in the first quarter, and one steal in a 15-2 victory against Chatham.
Wyckoff's game of the weekend came against Grove City, where she would once again get off to a hot start, scoring four of her career-high five goals in the first quarter. This scoring barrage included the first three Indiana goals, which all came in the first 1:42 of action. She also grabbed three steals and one kick-out earned in the 15-2 Indiana win.
The final game of the weekend was a 14-0 shutout victory against Penn State Behrend, and Wyckoff tallied one goal, one steal, and one kick-out earned.
For the season, Wyckoff has 16 goals, seven assists, and nine steals. She also leads the Hoosiers with 12 kick-outs drawn.
The last Hoosier to win the CWPA Western Division Player of the Week honor was senior Maggie Hannon on April 7, 2008. Freshman goalkeeper Cassie Wyckoff, Lauren's sister, grabbed Western Division Rookie of the Week honors on February 9.
Indiana will return to action on March 14-15 at the Loyola Marymount Tournament. They will open the tournament with a game against Cal State Bakersfield at 10:50 a.m. PT.
