15 Questions with Kelly Palmberg

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Kelly Palmberg has provided a steady presence in the pool all season for the No. 18 Indiana Hoosiers (17-14, 6-1 CWPA West). Palmberg has started in 27 contests and continues to provide solid all-around play for the Hoosiers as they enter the postseason riding a four game winning streak. She has fired in 14 goals this season, as well as tallying 18 assists and 20 steals, to go along with 11 kickouts drawn.
The Simi Valley, Calif. native played a key role in the Hoosiers' 7-4 win at Bucknell on April 5, filling the stat sheet with a goal, two assists, two steals, as well as one kickout earned. She finished the four game road trip with three goals, three assists, two takeaways, and two kickouts drawn.
Indiana heads into postseason play on April 18-19, as they will host the CWPA Western Division Championship at Cousilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The No. 2 seed Hoosiers will take on No. 7 seed Chatham in first round action on Saturday at noon.
The following is a question and answer with junior Kelly Palmberg:
What do you like most about being at IU? I really like our campus. It is one of the most beautiful campuses that I have seen.
What led you to start playing water polo? I was a swimmer since the age of five. After many years of swimming, I was getting burnt out and needed something to do, as well as swim, so I picked up age group water polo because their practices were right after swim practices. It gave me something to look forward to while I swam.
What is your favorite part of water polo? Traveling. I have been to so many states and have been able to see many different places all because of water polo.
What is the most difficult aspect of water polo? Getting in the water early in the morning.
Did you play other sports in high school? I played water polo and swam.
Favorite hobbies: Mario Kart. Waluigi is an awesome character.
Most prized possessions: My snoody cat, Waddles.
Favorite movie: The Emperor's New Groove
Favorite TV show: Family Guy
Favorite Food: Chicken Fingers. Almost anything with chicken in it.
Favorite sports team: San Diego Chargers
Favorite athlete: Jesse Smith (USA Olympic Water Polo). He lives in my area so I grew up watching him play and it was really awesome watching him become an Olympic athlete.
Person you would most like to meet: Anyone I have never met before.
Most memorable athletic moment: Beating Michigan in overtime.
Main goal heading into postseason play: Play every game as if it were the last game.
