FT. WAYNE, Ind. - Goals from Eric Alexander and Andy Adlard were just what the Hoosiers needed as they closed their spring competition schedule with a 2-0 win over the Akron Zips Saturday night in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Indiana struck first with Alexander's goal at 15:53. The Hoosiers had been threatening early, including a running shot from Daniel Kelly that Zips goalkeeper David Meaves just got his fingertips on. Freshman Caleb Konstanski also had a header that just ticked wide, and with just over four minutes to play in the first half junior Lee Hagedorn was going to goal and had a great look but could not get his foot on the ball.
Trailing by a goal, Akron came out pressuring in the second half and Thomas Schmitt sent in a hard shot that was saved by freshman Luis Soffner. Soffner finished the night with a six-save tally.
Will Bruin had a one-on-one shot that went wide left, but he made up for it two minutes later by setting up Adlard's goal. It was Bruin who took the initial shot which was saved by Meaves, but Adlard was right there to pounce on the rebound for what would be an insurmountable 2-0 Indiana lead in the 56th minute.
Kelly added another shot with some heat on it with 22 minutes to go, and Konstanski put one off the cross bar a minute later. Akron finished the game with a slight 14-13 advantage in shot attempts, with Bruin leading IU's attack with four shots. Alexander had three, along with two from Kelly.
