BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 17 Indiana Hoosiers (19-15) will travel to Cambridge, Mass. on April 24-26 for the CWPA Eastern Championship, where they will open with Brown University on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Hoosiers earned the right to compete at the Eastern Championship by placing in the top two at the Western Championship, where they lost a close battle to No. 12 Michigan, 9-8, in the final game.
Junior Katie Carson played a key role in the Hoosiers successful stretch of games at the Western Championship. While splitting time with freshman Cassie Wyckoff, Carson allowed only three goals during her 48 minutes of action, while also racking up 24 saves and two assists. In the final game, she held the talented Wolverines to two second half goals, which helped fuel a ferocious Indiana rally that came up just short.
This season, Carson has recorded a total of 168 saves in 24 games played, while carrying a 10.9 saves per game average. She set the single game school record for saves with 21 stops in a 5-4 win against UC-Santa Cruz at the UC-Santa Cruz Slugfest on February 28. The Hoosiers will need the solid play in the cage of Carson, as well as Wyckoff, to continue as they chase the Eastern Championship crown.
