BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshman Cassie Wyckoff recorded 31 saves, as well as a pair of steals, to earn the April 6 Western Division Rookie of the Week award. She helped lead the Hoosiers (17-14, 6-1 CWPA West) to an undefeated weekend with victories over Gannon, Mercyhurst, George Washington, and Bucknell.
Wyckoff began the weekend with 10 saves and a steal, while allowing just three goals in 16 minutes of action in the Hoosiers’ 12-7 Western Division win over Gannon. She followed up with a solid four save effort in 16 minutes during Indiana’s 11-7 victory against Mercyhurst, also allowing only two goals and collecting one steal. Wyckoff also blocked four shots in 24 minutes of play, as the Hoosiers defeated George Washington, 12-6.
The performance of the weekend came in a 7-4 conquering of Bucknell, as Wyckoff played a complete game and registered 13 saves. She controlled the opening period, making two critical five meter penalty saves, as well as recording a total of eight saves in the first half alone. Indiana’s win ended an eight game Bucknell winning streak, while also giving the Hoosiers their fourth straight victory heading into postseason play.
The award gives Wyckoff her second Rookie of the Week honor this season, as she also collected the award on February 9. It also marks the third consecutive week that a Hoosier has been recognized for the award, as fellow freshman Jakie Köhli was named Rookie of the Week on March 23 & 30.
Indiana will be back in action on April 18-19 as they host the CWPA Western Championship at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The Hoosiers, after earning the No. 2 seed, will take on No. 7 seed Chatham at 12:00 p.m. ET on April 18.
