Hoosiers Close 2008-09 Campaign Strong at NCAA Regional

SORRENTO, Fla. - All four Hoosier scorers posted sub-par rounds as the 11th-ranked Indiana men's golf team wrapped up the 2008-09 campaign in 12th place at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday. The Hoosiers closed the final round with a 7-under-par 277 to give them a three-day 855 total (294-284-277) at the RedTail Golf Club.
Central Florida (818) raced past the field with an 11-stroke victory over No. 1 Georgia, Arizona and No. 13 South Carolina (829). Iowa (837) finished fifth to claim the final spot out of the regional. The top-five teams advanced to the NCAA Championships.
Alex Martin concluded a solid regional with a 1-under 70. The junior opened with a 73 before bouncing back with a scorching 3-under 68 on the second 18. Martin paced IU in a tie for 27th at 211.
Tarquin MacManus of Arizona won the 75-player regional with a 15-under-par 198 (63-66-69).
Senior Jorge Campillo shot the Hoosiers' low round of the day with a 4-under 67 to share 40th place. After struggling in the opening round with a 74, the Ben Hogan Award finalist coupled today's 18 with a 73 in round two to close at 214.
IU's true freshmen tandem of Chase Wright and David Erdy ended the three days in a tie for 44th and 49th place, respectively. Wright gave the team its second 70 for a final score of 215 (74-71-70).
Erdy collected his second straight 72 on the heels of an opening-round 73 to wrap things up at 217 (73-72-72).
Playing in the fifth spot, senior Seth Brandon posted the team's third 70 on the afternoon. He moved into 68th place and finished the event at 223 (77-76-70).
