IU Volleyball Lends a Helping Hand at Coach Hep Challenge

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Volleyball enjoyed their weekend at the second annual Coach Hep Indiana Cancer Challenge, assisting with registration for the event and working the water station on the course.
The cycle-run-walk event was a huge success on Saturday. The event is held each year in honor of late Indiana University head football coach Terry Hoeppner, who died on June 19, 2007, after an 18-month battle with brain cancer.
"Coach Hep touched many lives throughout the state -- not just IU students and Bloomington community members," honorary chairperson and Coach Hep's widow, Jane Hoeppner, said. "Not only was there a connection with people through coaching, but also through his 18-month journey with brain cancer. I want to thank all the Hoosiers who took part in the Challenge and joined me in the fight against cancer."
The day kicked off with 50K and 100K cycling events and a 25K family cycling event. Participants could also choose a 5K run or 2K family walk. The events started outside the football practice fields north of Memorial Stadium.
Prior to the 5K run and 2K family walk, head football coach Bill Lynch, head basketball coach Tom Crean, Jane Hoeppner and former Hoosier kicker Austin Starr addressed the crowd. Don Fischer, the Voice of the Hoosiers, served as the master of ceremonies.
Hoeppner led the family walk, while Hoosiers coaches and their families joined the group. Following the run and walk, participants enjoyed music, a barbecue and an awards ceremony.
The Challenge motto was "Don't Quit. Join the Fight." As a token of appreciation, a pair of red shoelaces were be given away to all participants showing that everyone is tied to the fight against cancer.
