BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America announced the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams on Thursday. Indiana junior Brittney Hacken earned second team honors for her 4.0 GPA and her success on the field hockey field. Selected to the first team, Hacken is now eligible for Academic All-American honors.
Indiana field hockey head coach Amy Robertson said that Hacken has represented what she wants all of her players to strive to be on and off the field.
"Brittney has been an academic superstar and has performed brilliantly in the classroom in her career thus far. What has been the most impressive about Brittney is that she is Pre Med, which is one of the most difficult majors. She has also been a three-year contributor on the field playing in the back position. She has had to fulfill different roles, and whether she is in or out of her element, she has consistently performed and played to the best of her ability.”
Hacken had 15 starts and played in all 18 games in 2008, leading the Hoosier defense to three shutouts. She had 12 shots on the season, with six on goal. She scored her first career goal against No. 2 Wake Forest on Sept. 14, 2008. The Mountain Top, Pa., native has been named Academic All-Big Ten two years in a row and to the NFHCA All-Academic squad three years in a row. The junior had one of only 10 unblemished GPAs among all fall athletes in the Big Ten.
