BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team (32-25) has been awarded the No. 4 seed in the Louisville, Ky., Regional, the NCAA announced today. Indiana will take on No. 1 seed Louisville (44-15) in the opening round on Friday, May 29, at 7 p.m. at Jim Patterson Stadium. Middle Tennessee State is the second seed and will take on the No. 3 seed Vanderbilt on Friday at 3 p.m.
The NCAA Regional is a four-team, double-elimination tournament that runs from Friday to Sunday. The team to advance out of each regional moves on to the Super Regionals, a best-of-three series against one other team. The winner of the Super Regional then moves on to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
Indiana earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament by virtue of its first Big Ten Tournament Championship since 1996. The Hoosiers won all four of their games in the tournament to claim the conference's postseason crown.
Indiana won all four of its games in decisive fashion, outscoring its opponents 47-9 during the tournament. The Hoosiers delivered at least 15 hits in every game and limited its opposition to just 26 hits throughout the tourney. Junior pitcher Matt Bashore was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after throwing a seven-inning shutout performance against Minnesota in the second round of the tourney.
