Nochta Finishes Among Top 16 at National Amateur

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Rising Indiana University women's golf senior Laura Nochta advanced to the round of 16 at the Western Women's Golf Association 109th National Amateur Championship being contested at Shawnee Country Club in Lima, Ohio.
Nochta's week began with the qualifying rounds June 15-16, where she posted score of 77 and 73 to finish tied for third at 150 and earn a spot in the match play Championship Flight.
On June 17, Nochta defeated Courtney Horter in 19 holes. That placed her in the round of 32 on June 18, where she defeated Julia Thread, 5 and 4. The round of 16 was also contested on Thursday with Nochta's tournament run coming to an end at the hands of Betsie Johnson, 2 and 1.
Nochta is not the only Hoosier finding success on the links this summer. Incoming freshman Pamela Burneski teamed with Sue Kim to win the Washington State Golf Association Women's Best Ball Championship at Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Burneski and Kim recorded two rounds of 70 for the victory at the May 11-12 tournament. Additionally, rising senior Kellye Belcher is competing on the Collegiate All-Star Golf Team which will take part in tournaments in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and China in the month of July.
