BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head field hockey coach Amy Robertson has announced the addition of Jill Dedman to the staff.
Dedman comes to Indiana after spending time on the U.S. National Team and as the lead goalkeeper and defense coach for Rush Field Hockey in San Diego, Calif.
"I feel very fortunate to have been able to hire Jill, who has goalkeeping experience at the elite level and also previous Division I coaching experience," Robertson said. "I was looking for a very specific skill-set and the right personal qualities, and Jill was exactly the right fit for what we need right now. She is going to make an immediate positive impact with our ability to keep the ball out of the net, as her main on-field responsibility will be toward the overall development of our goalkeepers."
"I am thrilled to coach at Indiana and be a part of the Big Ten Conference," said Dedman. "Everyone at IU has been so welcoming and supportive and I am so happy to be involved in such a strong academic and athletic institution. I am really excited to coach with Amy and Kelly (Doton), who are not only enthusiastic and dedicated coaches, but also great people who I respect. There is a positive energy from both the staff and the players about the upcoming season, so I am looking forward to working with the team and seeing how that translates into a great, competitive season."
Between 2004-07 she was an assistant coach at the University of Albany, where she assisted in recruiting, organizing team travel and on-field coaching. While at Albany, Dedman helped lead the team to its first ever America East Conference regular season title.
Dedman, who received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston College, has played on the U.S. National Team for five years, competing with current IU assistant coach Kelly Doton for two years. She competed in the 2008 Argentina 4 Nation Tournament, on the 2007 Netherlands Tour Team, the 2007 AtaHoldings Champions Challenge Team, the 2006 USA Development Team, the 2002 World Cup Team, at the 2002 Japan 6 Nations International and the 2002 Champion's Challenge Team.
She also played on the U.S. Indoor Field Hockey team between 2005-07 and she earned a silver medal at the 2006 Indoor Pan American Cup.
Dedman was a two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year (1998, 2000) for Boston College, and was a 1999 All-American, a three-time regional All-American, and a four-time Academic All-American. She earned First Team All-BIG EAST honors in 1998 and 2000, and was a four-time Academic All-BIG EAST honoree.
In 2008, Dedman co-founded Full Circle Hockey in San Diego where she conducted clinics specializing in instruction in basic skills, decision making and game play for goalkeepers. She also conducted a shoot and save clinic, which focused on various shooting techniques for the field players and saving techniques for goalkeepers.
