BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team opened its preseason workout schedule with a morning training session on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the IU Field Hockey Field in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers return 16 letterwinners from last year's squad, including second team All-Big Ten honoree Meg O'Connell. O'Connell matched teammate Alina Valenti with seven goals scored a piece. Valenti led the team in points with 17, while O'Connell led the team in shots (39) and Katie Griswold led IU in assists with five.
Head coach Amy Robertson enters her 10th season as the leader of the Indiana program with 74 wins to her credit. Robertson took a minute after the team's first workout of the season to talk about the team being back in Bloomington, the senior class and the Hoosiers' four freshmen. Indiana will play two scrimmages on Aug. 19 (at Ball State) and Aug. 22 (at Louisville) before officially opening the season against American University in Richmond, Va., on Friday, Aug. 28.
