BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University volleyball team (10-3) began day two of the T.I.S. College Bookstore Invitational with a 3-0 sweep of Alabama A&M (5-8). The Hoosiers won by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-20. Indiana plays again tonight at 7 p.m., taking on North Carolina A&T.
It is usually a good sign when every player on the roster enters the match, and the early match was no different as all 14 Hoosiers played in the sweep. A healthy Shawn Hindman made her collegiate debut, contributing four kills, three digs and a block. Ten different Hoosiers recorded two or more kills in the contest. Jordan Haverly led all attackers with 10 put-aways (10-2-24).
Mary Chaudoin and Taylor Wittmer each posted six kills and combined for 19 errorless swings and a .632 hitting percentage. Caitlin Cox averaged five digs per set for a total of 15 while Laura Matula also chipped in a double-digit dig performance (10).
Indiana jumped ahead 5-0 in the opening set and never trailed en route to hitting .444 (14-2-27) as a team and topping the Bulldogs, 25-10. Hindman's first career attack attempt was a successful one, pounding the rock into the floor on a cross-court swing.
The Hoosiers garnered an early lead they wouldn't relinquish in the second set as well, going ahead 5-4 and never looking back. Setter Mary Chaudoin went on the offensive, swatting four kills in the frame. Matula was stealth in the backcourt, picking up six digs in the Hoosiers' 25-16 victory.
The Cream and Crimson then finished off Alabama A&M with a 25-20 tally in the final set.
