BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's golf team held its annual "Iron Chef" team cooking event Friday night at the Tudor Room at the IU Memorial Student Union.
The annual event splits the team into groups, this year pitting the "Greek Goddesses" against "El Pollo Loco." Following the tradition of the Iron Chef television show, the team was assigned the secret ingredient of chicken.
Both squads then had an hour and 15 minutes to create a meal to present to the judging panel. Serving as judges this year were Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass, head field hockey coach Amy Robertson, and Associate Athletic Director for Team and Athlete Development Services Janet Kittell.
The "Goddesses," consisting of Kellye Belcher, Molly O'Connor, Kylee Wierks and Jacqueline Yanch, prepared a meal of chicken souvlaki with tzatziki sauce, chicken gyros with a greek salad and homemade rice pilaf, and a dessert of baklava.
The "El Pollo Loco" squad went with a Mexican theme as Cecilia Orevik, Laura Nochta, Lauren Giesecke, Kate Coons and Pamela Burneski made nachos, chicken tacos with a mexican rice, and churros with chocolate dipping sauce for dessert.
After the panel had sampled all three dishes, with points being awarded for plating, taste and innovation. the Greek Goddesses took the title by the narrow margin of 79-77.
