Indiana Opens Play at Hokie Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Indiana played matches against players from No. 27 Virginia Tech on day one of the Hokie Challenge. The Hoosiers took three singles matches and a doubles match. Leading the way on the day were freshman Alex van Gils, who won in singles and doubles, and junior Santiago Gruter who defeated a ranked foe.
In flight D, junior Santiago Gruter defeated #75 Patrick Daciek in a three set epic. After falling in the first set, Gruter defeated Daciek in the second by a 6-2 tally. The third set proved to be a tough won. Gruter won in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7).
In flight G, van Gils defeated Jon Pine in three sets (1-6, 6-4, 6-4). He went on to join fellow freshman Josh MacTaggart in defeating Luca Somen and Corrado Degl' Incerti Tocci by an 8-4 tally.
Will Kendall also posted a win in flight F. He defeated Zach Pine in straight sets (6-3, 6-4).
