SETTING THE SCENE
• The Hoosiers return to conference action vs. Michigan Saturday night at Armstrong Stadium on the Big Ten Network.
• Indiana finds itself in the Big Ten driver's seat as the only remaining undefeated team in conference play.
• The Hoosiers are 3-1-1 in their last four matches and are coming off a 3-2 road victory at No. 11 Creighton.
• Indiana is 1-0 in Saturday night contests this season.
• After tonight the Hoosiers will not be home against until Oct. 27 vs. Butler.
• Indiana has won three in a row against Michigan, including a 1-0 victory last season in Ann Arbor with the game-winning goal from Andy Adlard.
NEWS AND NOTES
• Indiana came away with a big road win on Oct. 9 with a 3-2 victory at No. 11 Creighton, 3-2.
• Junior Will Bruin jumped all over the BlueJays with two goals within a two-minute span to give the Hoosiers a 2-0 lead.
• Bruin was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Oct. 12.
• Junior Alec Purdie scored the game-winning goal in the 67th minute, his second goal of the year and first game winner.
• The Hoosiers are now 4-1 against ranked teams this year and 3-1 in road matches.
• Bruin put home his eighth goal of the season for Indiana's lone score in a 2-1 loss to No. 22 Notre Dame on Oct. 9.
• Senior midfielder Andy Adlard assisted on the gaol his team-best fourth assist of the season.
• Indiana is now 0-3-1 when the opposing team scores first.
• Freshman midfielder Harrison Petts salvaged a 1-1 tie for Indiana vs. Wisconsin on Oct. 3 with his second goal of the season coming in the 52nd minute.
• Junior Chris Estridge, starting in the midfield, picked up his first assist of the season on the play.
• Indiana is 0-1-1 in overtime matches this season.
• Bruin scored the game winning goal for the second time in as many matches as the Hoosiers defeated in-state foe Evansville 1-0 on Sept. 29.
• Petts picked up his third assist of the season on the play, while senior Daniel Kelly recorded his first assist of the year.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Luis Soffner recorded his second shutout of the season.
• It was Indiana's first victory this year when scoring just one goal.
• The Hoosiers took a thrilling 3-2 win at No. 20 Penn State on Sept. 24.
• Bruin scored the game-winner with 11 seconds remaining, while freshman Nikita Kotlov had a goal and two assists.
• Petts had his first career goal in the win. He also picked up an assist.
• It was Indiana's first win in State College since the 2004 season.
• The Hoosiers are 17-0-3 in Big Ten openers since the league began recognizing the sport in 1991.
• The Hoosiers went 1-1 in their first true road matches of the season, falling 2-1 at Brown and picking up a 2-1 win at UMass.
• Adlard had a pair of goals on the weekend, including the game-winner at UMass.
• Bruin had the other goal against the Minutemen.
• Freshman Jacob Bushue and redshirt sophomore Tim Wylie had the assists on Bruin's goal. It was the first career points for both players.
• Indiana went 1-1 at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in South Bend, Ind., falling 1-0 to Cal Poly before recording a 2-0 win over No. 22 Drake.
• Adlard and Kotlov were the goal scorers for IU in the win over Drake. Adlard scored on a penalty kick, awarded after Bruin was pulled down in the penalty area.
• Kotlov's first career goal came on an assist from Bruin.
• Soffner recorded his first shutout of the 2010 season and was named to the all-tournament team. He was also named the goalkeeping MVP.
• Bruin also earned all-tournament team honors.
• Freshmen Matt McKain and Bushue earned their first career starts vs. Drake.
• Indiana posted a second-place finish at its adidas/IU Credit Union Classic with a 1-1 record.
• The Hoosiers dropped a 2-1 double overtime heartbreaker to California before bouncing back with a 5-1 win over No. 5 UCLA.
• Bruin was the talk of the weekend, recording four goals in the two matches, including three against UCLA.
• Purdie and Adlard each had a goal and two assists in the UCLA win.
• Bruin, Purdie and sophomore Caleb Konstanski were named to the Classic All-Tournament team. Bruin also went home with offensive MVP honors.
• Petts and Kotlov each picked up their first career points with an assist for Petts vs. California and an assist for Kotlov vs. UCLA.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
• Michigan is 8-2-3 on the season, most recently posting a 4-2 victory over Valparaiso on Wednesday night.
• The Wolverines have won four straight, outscoring opponents 11-5 during that time.
• Freshman Soony Saad leads the team in goal scored (10), points (21) and shot attempts (82). Justin Meram is next on the list with five goals.
• Michigan is outscoring opponents 23-14 this year, with 15 of its 23 goals coming in the second half. The Wolverines have also outshot the competition by a 280-193 margin.
• Michigan is 1-0-2 on the road this year with its lone victory a 3-2 win at Wisconsin on Oct. 10.
• The Wolverines have been held scoreless in their two losses this season.
• Head coach Steve Burns is in his 11th season at the helm of the Michigan program. He is assisted by Paul Snape and Chris Grassie.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana leads the all-time series, 13-1-1.
• Indiana has won three straight in the series, including a 1-0 victory in Ann Arbor in 2009.
• Andy Adlard had the game-winning goal in that matchup.
• Indiana's only loss to the Wolverines came in 2008 in Bloomington during the regular season, a 1-0 decision.
• The lone tie came in 2006, 2-2 in Bloomington.
• Two of the 15 matches in the series have gone into overtime, 2003 (2-1 Hoosiers) and 2007 (3-2 Hoosiers). Both those matches were in Ann Arbor.
• Michigan has scored five goals in the last six meetings after scoring just four goals in the previous nine meetings combined.
BRUIN HITS DOUBLE DIGITS
• Will Bruin tallied his ninth and 10th goals of the season in a 3-2 win at No. 11 Creighton, setting a new career high for single-season goals.
• Bruin's previous best was nine goals scored in 2009.
• Bruin is the first Hoosier to hit the double-digit mark in goals scored in a season since Jacob Peterson had 12 goals in 2005.
• Bruin now has 25 career goals in 57 games played. He has started every match played in his career.
CREIGHTON RECAP
•The Indiana men's soccer team tacked two early goals on No. 11 Creighton but it was a second-half score that was the difference in a 3-2 victory over the BlueJays at Morrison Stadium Saturday night.
• Indiana improves to 6-4-1 on the season and hands Creighton (8-2) its first home loss of the season.
• "It was a great result tonight, coming here and playing a very good Creighton team," said head coach Todd Yeagley. "For our guys to come in here and get a result, not many teams are able to do that.
• "We had some very nice first half goals, but in the second half the worst-case scenario happened and we gave up a goal in the first minute. They gained momentum and confidence, and then it was a dogfight in the second half."
• Junior forward Will Bruin gave Indiana a 1-0 lead at 28:57 when he sent in a flick header off service from freshman Harrison Petts. It was Bruin's team-leading ninth goal of the season. Just under two minutes later at 30:50, Bruin put the Hoosiers up 2-0, hitting the double-digit tally in goals for the first time in his career. Junior Alec Purdie beat the left defender and took it into the 18. He crossed the ball into Bruin who knocked it home.
• Despite playing with just 10 men, Creighton needed just 13 seconds in the second half to cut Indiana's lead to one with a crossing shot from Ethan Finley to make it 2-1 Hoosiers at 45:13.
• The Hoosiers were clinging to the one-goal lead until Purdie gave them some breathing room at 66:11 with his second goal of the season. Senior Daniel Kelly played a ball over the top to Purdie, who chipped it over Creighton goalkeeper Brian Holt for the 3-1 lead.
• The BlueJays made it interesting when Finley scored his second goal of the game in the 88th minute to cut Indiana's advantage back to one.
• Junior goalkeeper Nate Mitchell made his first-ever regular season appearance, earning the start between the pipes. Mitchell was tested early, coming out to stop a 1v1 attempt from Dion Acoff less than five minutes into the match for his first career save. Mitchell made a sprawling save to his left on a Jose Gomez shot at 14:02.
• With 35:39 to play in the first half, freshman Jacob Bushue and Creighton's Greg Jordan knocked heads at midfield, stopping play for a minute. Bushue was able to jog off the field but had to be replaced by senior Cameron Jordan. After getting patched up on the sideline Bushue was able to return to the field in the first half.
• Junior Chris Estridge had Indiana's first shot of the match, weaving his way into the 18 to take an uncontested shot that he sent high. Just a minute later Petts sent in a ball across the goal which landed just behind a waiting Bruin.
• At around the 23 minute mark, Indiana had a free kick from 35 yards out with Bushue flicking on service from junior Tommy Meyer, sending the attempt just wide left.
• Indiana gained a man advantage at 35:57 in the first half when Creighton's Jose Gomez was shown a red card for a play on Bushue.
• Creighton held a 9-7 shot advantage at the half, with Bruin taking three of the Hoosiers' seven shots. Mitchell went into the break with two saves.
BRUIN NAMED BIG TEN OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• For the third time in 2010, junior forward Will Bruin was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, announced on Oct. 11.
• Bruin earned the award after a three-goal week, including two goals in a two-minute span in a 3-2 win at No. 11 Creighton.
• Bruin's second award came on Sept. 27.
• Bruin was honored for his game-winning goal with 11 seconds left in the Hoosiers' 3-2 win at No. 20 Penn State on Sept. 24.
• On the heels of a four-goal weekend, including three scores against No. 5 UCLA, Bruin was also named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6.
• Bruin recorded his first career hat trick with three goals as Indiana posted its first win of the season on Sunday with a 5-1 victory over UCLA in a match that was broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Bruin had seven shots in the match, six of which were on frame. His first goal of 2010 came in the season opener with the lone score in a 2-1 double overtime loss to California.
• He was also named the Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week and earned a spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week.
RPI RELEASED
• The first NCAA RPI of the 2010 season was released on Oct. 12 and the Hoosiers are No. 22 in the initial rankings.
• The Hoosiers rank fourth among Big Ten teams, behind No. 4 Ohio State, No. 5 Michigan State and No. 11 Penn State.
• The rest of the Big Ten includes No. 43 Michigan, No. 64 Northwestern and No. 144 Wisconsin.
• In addition to the Big Ten teams, IU's opponents are No. 9 Butler, No. 12 Brown, No. 13 California, No. 14 Creighton, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 20 UCLA, No 70 Cal Poly, No 75 Drake, No. 99 UMass, No. 110 Kentucky and No. 116 Evansville.
• The RPI will be released every Tuesday through the end of the regular season.
HOOSIERS IN THE NATIONAL POLLS
• Indiana moved up two spots in the Soccer America top-25, coming in at No. 18.
• The Hoosiers are receiving four votes in the NSCAA/HendricksCars.com National Coaches Poll, four spots out of the top 25. Two Big Ten teams are ranked in the top 25 with No. 16 Ohio State and No. 21 Michigan State.
• Indiana moved up one spot to No. 25 in the College Soccer News poll.
• Indiana moved up one place to No. 23 in the Soccer Times poll.
FRESHMEN TO THE RESCUE
• The freshmen duo of Harrison Petts and Nikita Kotlov have been key to the Hoosiers' success this season.
• The two have accounted for 20 percent of Indiana's goals this season and 36 percent of the team's assists .
• Petts has put up at least one point in four of Indiana's last five matches, where the Hoosiers have gone 3-1-1.
• He had a goal and an assist in a thrilling 3-2 win at Penn State on Sept. 24, accounting for his first career score.
• Against Evansville on Sept. 29 he assisted on Will Bruin's game-winning goal in the 30th minute.
• It was Petts' goal in the 52nd minute that salvaged a 1-1 tie for Indiana vs. Wisconsin on Oct. 3.
• Petts has started all 11 matches and is tied for third on the team in scoring with eight points (2g, 4a). He has 24 shots, 11 of which are on frame.
• Fellow freshman Nikita Kotlov has also come through for IU and is tied with Petts for third in scoring with eight points (2g, 4a).
• Kotlov had a goal and two assists in the 3-2 win at Penn State.
• His first career goal came in a 2-0 win over No. 22 Drake on Sept. 12, and his first assist came in a 5-1 win over No. 5 UCLA.
NCAA STATISTICS (as of 10/11)
• Junior forward Will Bruin is ranked among the top-10 in several NCAA Division I categories.
• Bruin is tied for second in total goals (10), tied for third in goals per game (0.91), tied for fifth in total points (21) and tied for ninth in points per game (1.91).
EVEN STEVEN
• The Hoosiers have posted nearly identical stats in first and second half play this season, showing a consistency not seen in recent years.
• Indiana's 20 goals this season have been split equally with 10 coming in the first half and 10 in the second half.
• The Hoosiers have taken 176 shots: 89 in the first half and 82 in the second half. Three shots have come in the first OT period, and two in the second.
• Of its 60 corner kicks, 31 were taken in the first half and 26 in the second half.
• The Hoosiers are even fairly 50/50 in fouls with 42 in the first half and 55 in the second.
OHIO STATE MATCH PICKED UP BY BIG TEN NETWORK
• The Indiana-Ohio State match on Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. ET in Columbus, Ohio has been selected by the Big Ten Network as its wildcard match for that weekend.
• The game will air on a tape-delay basis Sunday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. ET.
DID YOU KNOW?
• The Hoosiers are 1-3 in Friday night matches after taking a 3-2 win at No. 20 Penn State on Sept. 24.
• In 11 games this season, Indiana has scored 10 first-half goals. The Hoosiers tallied just four first-half goals in all of 2009.
• Indiana is outscoring its opponents 10-5 in the first 45 minutes.
• Ten different Hoosiers have put points on the board this year with Will Bruin, Andy Adlard, Alec Purdie, Nikita Kotlov, Tommy Meyer, Jacob Bushue, Tim Wylie, Harrison Petts, Chris Estridge and Daniel Kelly each putting up at least a point.

• Junior Tommy Meyer and his father, Keith Meyer, are the first father-son combination to play soccer at Indiana. Meyer played for the Hoosiers in 1980 and 1982-84, winning NCAA titles in 1982 and 1983.
• Indiana played its 100th Big Ten regular season match on Sept. 25, 2009 a 1-0 win at Wisconsin. The Hoosiers have won 83 percent (84-13-9) of their Big Ten regular season matches.
BIG TEN DOMINATION
• Since the Big Ten began sponsoring men's soccer in 1991, the Hoosier have dominated the league.
• The Hoosiers are 84-12-10 in regular season matches, tallying nearly 30 more victories than second-place team Penn State (56).
• Indiana has never lost in its Big Ten opener, going 17-0-3 in those matches.
• IU has won 11 Big Ten tournament titles, sharing the 1995 crown with Wisconsin.
• Indiana has also been crowned regular season champion 13 times, including nine-straight seasons from 1996-2004. IU won back-to-back regular season titles in 2006 and 2007.
• Indiana has been the league's goals-against average leader in 15 of 18 seasons, including 2007 when the Hoosiers allowed just two goals in six matches for a 0.31 GAA.
