BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University volleyball team (14-4, 2-4) hops in the plane on Thursday, venturing north to Madison, Wis., to begin a two-match weekend at Wisconsin (11-6, 0-6) and No. 8 Illinois (13-3, 5-1). Both contests are set for 8 p.m. EST (7 CT) starts. Indiana faces the Badgers Friday night before heading to Champaign for a Saturday night scuffle with the Fighting Illini.
Head Coach Sherry Dunbar has had some previous success on the road versus this week's opposition. Under Dunbar, the Hoosiers have won the last two meetings inside the UW Fieldhouse while the Cream and Crimson also walked out of Huff Hall with a five-set victory back in 2007, Coach Dunbar's first season in Bloomington.
IUHoosiers.com will be providing live audio broadcasts for both contests free of charge. LISTEN IN as Kyle Kuhlman calls all the action. Video streaming is also being offered by both host schools, a fee and registration may be required, however.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Indiana took a step onto the national stage Monday, receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll for the first time this season. The Hoosiers nabbed three votes, ranking them No. 34 in the country.
Indiana also made a jump in the RPI standings, elevating to the 39th slot this week.
A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER
The Hoosiers had a huge weekend on Oct. 8-9, notching four-set wins over both Ohio State and three-time defending national champion Penn State on back-to-back night.
It marks the first win over the Nittany Lions in school history. Both foes came into University Gym ranked nationally with PSU at No. 4 and the Buckeyes slotted No. 26.
BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Haverly was named one of the Big Ten's Co-Players of the Week on Oct. 11 after leading the Hoosiers to a pair of four-set victories over Ohio State and No. 4 Penn State. She shared the award with Michigan's Lexi Zimmerman.
Haverly averaged 4.4 kills and 2.0 digs per set over the weekend, finishing with a double-double versus Ohio State and 21 kills against the three-time defending national champion Nittany Lions. The Cherry Valley, Ill., native now has five double-dubs on the season. She hit .292 for the weekend while also blasting jump serve after jump serve in both matches, breaking down the opposition's offensive system.
Haverly is not new to conference recognition, being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on three occasions last season.
