The Hoosiers will make their final road trip of the regular season when they visit No. 9 Michigan State on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. ET and Ball State on Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. ET.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
No. 9 Michigan State enters Saturday's game with a 12-4 overall record a 1-3 mark in the Big Ten with a 1-0 victory over Iowa on Sept. 24. The Spartans are led by Kristen Henn and Sabine van den Assem with nine goals apiece, while Jantine Steinmetz and Joelle van Ierland lead MSU with eight assists each.
Ball State enters Sunday's game 5-9 overall record. The Cardinals are led by Devanny Kuhn with 15 goals, to go along with three assists, for 33 points on the season.
SERIES HISTORY
Michigan State leads the all-time series with Indiana, 13-1, winning the last six meetings. In 2009, the Hoosiers and Spartans met twice. MSU traveled to Bloomington and topped IU, 6-2, on Oct. 9. The next meeting took place during the 2009 Big Ten Tournament in East Lansing where the two teams met in the championship game on Nov. 8. The Hoosiers battled MSU to the end, however the Spartans came away with the 3-2 win.
IU leads the all-time series with Ball State, 7-3, winning the last six meetings. The Hoosiers and Cardinals last met on Sept. 19, 2009, and IU defeated BSU, 2-1, in Bloomington.
HOOSIERS ON THE BIG TEN NETWORK
Saturday's game at Michigan State will be a Big Ten Network broadcast with Josh Hakala and Karen Weaver on the call. The game will be a tape-delay broadcast and will air on the network on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. ET.
IU EXTENDS WINS STREAK TO THREE
Corey Brautigam scored her second overtime game-winning goal this season at the 74th minute as Indiana topped Iowa, 2-1, in OT, for its first Big Ten win of the season on Oct. 15. Lena Grote scored the first goal for the Hoosiers in the 12th minute. Grote's goal was scored on a corner as she put in a shot taken by Morgan Fleetwood. The Hawkeyes claimed the equalizer in the 39th minute as Jessica Barnett scored on a corner. Brautigam netted the game-winner as she rebounded off a shot by Fleetwood.
IU picked up its third straight win with a 2-1 victory over Villanova on Oct. 17. Kelsey Kiper netted the Hoosiers first goal of the game in the 44th minute and Shareyna Chang scored the game-winner in the 48th minute. After playing a scoreless first half, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute as Meredith Sabatini scored an unassisted goal. However, IU fought back, earning a penalty corner at the 43:07 mark that set up Kiper for her third goal of the season. Brenna Moeljadi dribbled the ball off the corner around the right side of the circle and sent it to Kiper, who scored off the left post of the cage to even the score at 1-1 in the 44th minute. Just four minutes later, the Hoosiers used a similar play off a corner as Moeljadi sent the ball to right side of the cage to find Chang for the goal, her fifth of the season.
DEDMAN TO BE INDUCTED
IU assistant coach Jill Dedman will be inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame on Oct. 23. Dedman was a two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year at Boston College and a 1999 All-American before graduating in 2000.
HOOSIER NOTABLES
• Indiana has won four of its last five games, including two overtime victories over No. 10 Louisville (10/05, 2-1) and Iowa (10/15, 2-1). The Hoosiers are 3-0 in overtime games on the season.
• Brenna Moeljadi leads Indiana with 14 points in 14 games after recording five goals and four assists. She also owns two defensive saves on the year.
• Becky Pany has 71 saves in 12 starts this year and a 1.28 goals against average.
• IU's win at Bucknell was its first by way of penalty strokes in program history. The last time the Hoosiers played to strokes was on Sept. 7, 2001, when they suffered a 1-0 loss to Stanford.
• Nine Hoosiers have scored at least one goal for Indiana in 14 games, with Moeljadi and Shareyan Chang scoring five apiece.
• Morgan Fleetwood has recorded 43 shots in 14 games, raising her career total to 132, ranking fifth all-time in the IU record book and 11 shots from tying Morgan Miller (2003-06) for fourth all-time at 143. She is tied with Meg O'Connell (2006-09) and Meredith Brown (2004-07) with 48 career points.
