Hoosiers Post 7th Place Finish at Irish Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Led by a top-15 finish from sophomore Jacqueline Yanch and a solid final round from freshman Lindsay Gahm, the Indiana women's golf team posted a seventh-place finish at the 13-team, 54-hole William K. Warren Irish Invitational at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
Indiana tallied a 317 in the final round to finish with a score of 929 (311-301-317). The host Fighting Irish won with a tally of 905 (305-298-302), followed by Kent State at 910 (305-307-298), Ohio State at 921 (307-298-316), Louisville at 925 (309-311-305) and Illinois at 925 (312-311-302) in the top five.
"We were not really pleased with how we finished, but we can take some good things away from this experience," said head coach Clint Wallman. "We have some fundamental issues we need to address but we will take it from there and get ready for the Lady Northern Invitational."
Yanch struggled in the final round with an 80 but still returns to Bloomington with her top finish of the season after placing tied for 13th with a score of 230 (76-74-70). Gahm, competing in her first collegiate tournament, had the low round of the day for IU on Sunday with a 77 and placed tied for 21st at 233 (81-75-77).
Junior Kristtini Cain also had her top finish of the year, placing tied for 29th after a round of 81 on Sunday (76-78-81/235). Just one stroke back was sophomore Kate Coons who placed tied for 35th. Her final-round 79 put her with a 236 for the tournament (83-74-79). Sophomore Pamela Burneski carded an 81 on Sunday and finished tied for 45th at 238 (78-79-81).
Senior Lauren Giesecke was competing as an individual and finished tied for 45th with a score of 239, including a round of 81 on Sunday (83-75-81).
Indiana will get a preview of the Big Ten Championship field and course as it travels to the Lady Northern Invitational, Oct. 11-12 at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill., with Northwestern University serving as host.
