AUSTIN, Texas - Spurred by a pair of 1-under par rounds from freshman Lindsay Gahm the Indiana women's golf team is currently in sixth place after 36 holes of the Challenge at Onion Creek being held at the par-70 Onion Creek Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
Indiana is 12 strokes out of first place with 18 holes to play as Coastal Carolina sits in the top spot with a score of 574. Iowa State and Michigan are tied for second at 575, with Illinois fourth (577), Augusta State fifth (582) and the Hoosiers sixth at 586 (300-286).
"We didn't get the start we wanted but I liked how we bounced back in the second round," said head coach Clint Wallman. "I was pleased that they rebounded in the fashion they did and we are prepped and ready to go tomorrow. We have had a lot of confidence the last couple of weeks and while they were disappointed after the first round they did not let it shake them. They know they can come out and shoot a low number tomorrow.
Gahm posted identical rounds of 69 and is currently tied for second with a score of 138. Gahm tallied three birdies in round one and had six in round two but was undone by a double bogey on 10 and a quadruple bogey on 18.
"Lindsay was really strong in both rounds," Wallman said.
Sophomore Kate Coons is tied for 27th with a 6-over 76 in round one before coming back with a 1-over 71 over the final 18 holes of the day. Junior Kristtini Cain is just one stroke behind with a two-round score of 148 and is tied for 31st. Cain had a 77 in the morning but used three birdies and no double bogeys to post a 71 in round two.
Sophomores Jacqueline Yanch and Pamela Burneski are tied for 52nd with scores of 154. Yanch shot a 78 in round one and a 76 in round two, while Burneski posted scores of 79 and 75. Competing as an individual, senior Lauren Giesecke is tied for 64th with a score of 157 (77-80).
The Hoosiers will hope the forecasted rain holds off for the final round tomorrow morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET. It will be the final round of competitive play for the 2010 fall season.
