BLOOMINGTON, Ind - The Indiana University volleyball program added three players to the 2011 roster, receiving National Letters of Intent from Morgan Leach, Colleen Smith and Jennifer Smith earlier this week.
"We are very excited to have Colleen, Morgan and Jennifer join the Hoosier family," said Head Coach Sherry Dunbar. "While building this program, we have been very conscious of recruiting student-athletes that can play at the Big Ten level, but more importantly we needed players that were the right fit for our program.
"Colleen, Morgan and Jennifer all know how to win, have a passion to be great and are fantastic kids that will represent Indiana University very well."
MORGAN LEACH (Champaign, Ill., Centennial H.S., Illini Elite Club)
Leach is a 6-foot-2 middle from Champaign, Ill. She was named her conference's Player of the Year this season and earned PrepVolleyball's 2011 `Senior Aces 100' recognition. PrepVolleyball also tabbed her as one of the Top-50 juniors in the country following her 2009 high school campaign. Morgan is the daughter of Kris Bosworth and Brice Leach.
"Morgan is built a lot like Ashley Benson. She is quick off the ground with good lateral speed and has a lot of untapped potential. She will really blossom at this level playing against great competition in practice and during matches. I look to her to make significant jumps in her play early in her career and make an impact to our program."
COLLEEN SMITH (Cary, Ill., Cary-Gove H.S., Sky High Club)
Smith, a six-foot setter, serves as the captain of the 40-0 and No. 1 nationally-ranked Cary-Grove High School squad. She excels in club ball as well, earning AAU All-American honors in 2009 after leader her squad to an AAU National Championship and being named tournament MVP. Smith was also chosen as one of PrepVolleyball's `Senior Aces' for the class of 2011. Colleen is the daughter of Robert "Bubba" and Krista Smith.
"Colleen is currently the starting setter for the number one team in the nation, Cary Grove. She is a leader, a gym rat, a great teammate and knows how to win at the highest level in club and high school. She will immediately bring that attribute to our program and can only help us continue to move forward as a program."
JENNIFER SMITH (Greenville, Ind., Floyd Central H.S., KIVA Club)
Smith is two-sport star, making plays on both the volleyball and basketball court for Floyd Central High School. She is Floyd Central High's all-time blocks leader and led the Highlanders to back-to-back state runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2008. Smith has also had a high level of success in the club forum, winning national titles in both AAU and JVDA tournaments. Jennifer is the daughter of David and Anne Smith.
"Jennifer is both a great basketball and volleyball player. She is concentrating her efforts solely on volleyball in her final season of high school and club. She is a versatile athlete that will be able to play both middle and right side for us and is very good off of one foot. Jennifer has had good training at both the high school and club level and will add depth at both positions."
