BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A pair of former Indiana University men's soccer players will be on opposite benches as FC Dallas takes on the Colorado Rapids on Sunday, Nov. 21 in the Major League Soccer Cup Final from BMO Field in Toronto. The game will be shown live at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Hoosier Eric Alexander and his FC Dallas squad advanced to the championship game after a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Nov. 14. A rookie, Alexander saw action in the final minutes of the victory and has played in 17 matches with 12 starts. He has been on the field a total of 1,054 minutes this season, tallying two goals and three assists. Alexander was a third-round pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
Alexander played at Indiana from 2006-09 appearing in 91 matches with 80 starts. He finished with 12 goals and 13 assists for his career, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2007 and was a unanimous pick for the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2006. Alexander was also a standout in the classroom as a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Alexander will face off against Hoosier Drew Moor, who helped lead his Colorado Rapids to the Cup final with a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. Moor has been a rock on defense for Colorado this season, starting all 30 matches and playing every single minute, a total of 2,700 minutes on the field. In his second season with the Rapids after being acquired in a trade from FC Dallas in August 2009, Moor has one goal this season.
Moor spent the 2003 and 2004 seasons at Indiana, transferring into the Hoosier program after his freshman year at Furman. He made an immediate impact, helping Indiana to NCAA titles in both his seasons in Bloomington. Moor earned All-America honors in 2004 and was a two-time unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection. The Hoosiers went 37-7-6 during his time at IU.
"We are very excited to have Eric and Drew make the MLS Cup and represent our IU alumni, taking lead roles in Major League Soccer," said head coach Todd Yeagley, himself a former MLS standout. "Both had great years and their contributions helped their teams get to this point. I know it is going to be a fantastic match. They have a great future in the league and it could not happen to two better people. Both represent our University with such distinction and we look forward to a great match Sunday. It will be great to see another Hoosier raise the trophy."
FC Dallas and Colorado are playing for their first-ever MLS title.
