IU Begins Title Defense at Big Ten Match Play Championship

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Rather than easing into the spring season, the Indiana University men's golf team is beginning 2010 looking to defend their title at the 2nd Annual Big Ten Match Play Championship after winning the inaugural event a year ago.
This year's conference match play competition is being held at the Heron Bay Golf Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., from Feb. 12-13. The course layout is expected to be a 7,268-yard, par-72. Each school enters six players into the line-up. Indiana's expected contingent includes:
1. Alex Martin, Sr.
2. David Erdy, So.
3. Chase Wright, So.
4. Brant Peaper, Fr.
5. Michael McGee, Fr.
6. Ren Han, Jr.
The Hoosiers have been tabbed the No. 5 seed for the bracket-style tournament, and will face fourth-seeded Minnesota Friday morning after receiving a first-round bye. If IU advances to the semifinals, a likely match-up with top-seeded Illinois awaits on Saturday.
The Championship Match is scheduled to be broadcast (tape delay) by the Big Ten Network on Sunday, March 14 at Noon EST.
