BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshman Leslie Hureau was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week for women's tennis on Tuesday (Feb. 23). She posted a 4-0 mark last week, leading the Hoosiers to a pair of wins over traditional national women's tennis powers, #10 Tennessee and Kentucky.
Against Tennessee on Sunday, Hureau teamed with Charlotte Martin for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Hureau then clinched the Indiana upset, defeating No. 38 Maria Sorbello, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 2 singles.
The Annecy-le-Vieux, France, native also won at No. 1 singles versus Kentucky - defeating Megan Broderick, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5). She added another doubles victory against the Wildcats. Hureau and Martin combined to win 16 of 18 games on the doubles court.
The conference office has awarded six weekly accolades thus far during the 2010 spring season with Indiana the lone school to receive multiple laurels. Evegeniya Vertesheva was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week back on Jan. 26.
