WEEK IN REVIEW
Indiana began the season with a 1-2 record at the Michigan Kick-Off in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Jan. 23-24. The Hoosiers battled No. 5 UCLA in the season opener and trailed by two at the half, before falling 12-6. Indiana got off to a slow start against No. 7 San Jose State, falling behind 5-0 during the second period. The Hoosiers would rally, but it was not enough as the Spartans held on for the 8-6 win. Indiana ended the weekend strong with a 13-7 victory against Colorado State, bringing their all-time record against the Rams to 8-0.
HOOSIERS IN THE POLLS
The Hoosiers are currently ranked No. 16 in the Varsity Top 20, moving up two positions from the Jan. 27 poll. It marks the highest ranking since April 22, 2009 when the Hoosiers were also No. 16. Indiana also climbed one spot in the CWPA Poll to No. 3, behind Michigan and Hartwick.
SCORING STREAK
Sophomore Jakie Köhli scored the first of her career-high four goals in the second minute of the 13-7 Indiana win over Colorado State on Jan. 24. Köhli has scored at least one goal in 13 consecutive games played. The streak began on March 22, 2009 against San Diego State at the Aztec Invitational.
QUICK THREE
Junior Nicole Redder tied a career-high with four goals against Colorado State, including a remarkable three scores in a 57 second span early in the fourth quarter. Redder's flurry helped the Hoosiers extend their lead from two to five and was key in securing their first win of the young season.
Redder also picked up where she left off last season in the steals department, grabbing seven takeaways, which ties the team-high. Köhli also notched seven steals over the weekend. Redder has made at least one steal in eight consecutive games dating back to April 18, 2009. She currently sits at 122 career steals, which puts her eight behind Clare Meadows, who is tenth on the Indiana all-time list.
FIRST TIMERS
Three Hoosiers recorded their first career goals during the Michigan Kick-Off. Junior Katie Black and freshman Jenna Lee Tameris scored one goal each against UCLA in their first game as Hoosiers. Freshman Kym King scored on a high-arcing lob against San Jose State.
