DURHAM, N.C. - The Indiana University women's tennis team (6-1) suffered their first loss of the 2010 campaign, dropping a 7-0 decision at No. 1 Duke (5-0).
Saturday's match opened with the defending national champion Blue Devils sweeping doubles play. Indiana's third doubles team of Maria Guerreiro and Katya Zapadalova gave their opposition a battle though, before falling 8-5.
Once onto the singles courts, Duke's line-up which included three nationally-ranked individuals continued to control the action. Leslie Hureau and Zapadalova each narrowly missed out on taking their first sets against a pair of Blue Devils slotted in the national rankings.
Hureau pushed her opening set against No. 91 Ellah Nze to 7-5 while Zapadalova took four games in her first set versus No. 63 Monica Gorny.
The Hoosiers will remain in North Carolina for another night as they take on Wake Forest Sunday at noon. Go to www.wakeforestsports.com for live match updates with the Demon Deacons.
