WEEK IN REVIEW
Indiana hosted the Elite Eight on March 6-7 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, finishing with a 9-4 win over Maryland to grab third place in the event. The Hoosiers crushed No. 20 Brown, 9-1, in the first round to set up a semifinal battle with division rival No. 8 Michigan. The win against Brown marked the largest margin of victory for either team throughout their 16 meetings. Indiana jumped on the Wolverines early, and led 6-4 heading into the final stanza before Michigan reeled off three unanswered goals to win 7-6. The loss snapped a seven game winning streak for the Hoosiers. Jakie Köhli led the Hoosiers in scoring during the tournament, notching seven goals on 12 shot attempts.
LOCK-DOWN
Indiana has established a reputation for making things difficult for opposing offenses with their aggressive, hard-nosed team defense. The Hoosiers surrendered a total of 12 goals combined to Brown, Michigan, and Maryland at the Elite Eight. For the season, they are allowing an average of 6.29 goals per contest and have not allowed more than seven scores during any of their last nine games.
CENTURY CLUB
Junior Nicole Redder needs one score to reach the 100 goal plateau for her Hoosier career. She is second on the squad in scoring this season with 28 goals. Redder is also five goals shy of landing on the top ten Indiana career scoring list, as Janis Pardy (2004-06) currently occupies the tenth spot with 104 goals. Redder also has 141 steals in her career and is two behind Pardy for eighth on the career steals list.
WYCKOFF HONORED
Cassie Wyckoff had a stellar weekend in the cage during the Elite Eight, recording 24 saves in 64 minutes of action to earn her second CWPA Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award of the season. In the first round against Brown, Wyckoff consistently stymied the Bear offense on her way to 10 saves on 24 shot attempts. She also collected one steal and anchored the stingy Hoosier defense as they allowed only one goal to the Bears. She made 14 saves in the loss to Michigan, including a collection of crucial stops in the third as the Hoosiers hung onto their lead until the Wolverines' three goal rally in the fourth quarter ultimately decided the game.
RECORD PACE
Sophomore Jakie Köhli has scored a team-high 44 goals through the Hoosiers' first 14 games this season. The school single-season scoring record is 77, set by Brooke Zimmerman in 2008. Köhli is currently on pace to net a remarkable 103 goals if she continues at her current rate of 3.1 goals per game. Köhli has scored multiple goals in 13 of 14 games this season for the Hoosiers.
