MONTEREY, Calif. -
The No. 16 Indiana Hoosiers (11-5) used a seven goal third quarter to separate themselves from Cal State Monterey Bay, prevailing 15-4 in their second game of the weekend. The game marked the second consecutive outing in which the Hoosiers never trailed.
"We really asserted ourselves in the second half," said Indiana head coach Barry King. "I thought our defense led to some nice opportunities and that was important for us."
Indiana found the net from a variety of players, with 11 Hoosiers scoring goals in the contest. Lauren Wyckoff led the way, scoring three goals and dishing out a pair of assists. Jakie Köhli and Nicole Redder each notched two goals in the winning effort. Katie Black, Kelsey Campbell, Kate Dunn, Hanna Eimstad, Megan Jacobs, Sara Joseph, Kym King, and Jenna Lee Tameris each scored one goal for the Hoosiers.
Cassie Wyckoff started the game in the cage and made six saves on 15 Otter shot attempts, while also grabbing a pair of steals. Katie Carson came on in the second half to make eight saves and one steal.
The Hoosiers led 6-3 at the half before coming through to start the third in a big way. Indiana reeled off six straight goals in the first five minutes of the period to take a commanding 12-3 lead. CSMB came back with their lone second half goal at the 2:11 mark in the third, but the Hoosiers responded with one goal in the third and two more in the final period to put the stamp on the victory.
Indiana will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Sonoma State for a 3:00 p.m. PT meeting.
