Bloomington, Ind. -
Two members of the No. 16 Indiana University women's water polo team were recognized by the CWPA today for their outstanding play over the weekend in northern California. Junior Nicole Redder was named the Western Division Co-Player of the Week, while sophomore Jakie Köhli was chosen as the Western Division Defensive Player of the Week. The pair helped the Hoosiers (11-5) finish the weekend undefeated with wins over Santa Clara and Cal State Monterey Bay.
Redder earned the Player of the Week honor after scoring four goals in the Hoosiers' 13-9 win at Santa Clara. She also added two steals, two earned kick-outs, and an assist. Redder notched two goals in the 15-4 Indiana victory at Cal State Monterey Bay, while also chipping in one assist and one steal.
Redder surpassed the 100 career goals mark during the third quarter of the Santa Clara contest, and finished the weekend by eclipsing Janis Pardy for tenth on the all-time Indiana scoring list with 105 goals. She also moved past Pardy for eighth on the all-time steals list with 144.
Köhli wreaked havoc on the defensive end for the Hoosiers throughout the weekend, most notably during her career-high six steal effort against Cal State Monterey Bay. She also added two goals and an assist in the win. Against Santa Clara, Köhli reeled in one steal to go along with three goals and an assist.
Köhli currently leads the team with 36 steals on the season, while also accumulating a team-high 49 goals.
The award marks the second consecutive weekend that a Hoosier has taken home the Defensive Player of the Week honor, as fellow sophomore Cassie Wyckoff was chosen on March 8.
