She also holds the single-game saves record at IU with 21 against UC Santa Cruz on Feb. 28, 2009.
Palmberg, a 2009 Academic All-Big Ten selection, has started 89 games in her Hoosier career, racking up 92 goals, 71 assists, and 89 steals. She has 14 goals, 14 assists, and 20 steals during the 2010 season.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Indiana competed in six games throughout northern California from March 13-20 during their spring break week, posting a 4-2 record. The Hoosiers picked up road wins against Santa Clara, Cal State Monterey Bay, Sonoma State, and No. 17 Pacific. Indiana outlasted Pacific 10-9 in a thrilling overtime battle that included a total of 81 shots taken. Both of the Hoosiers' losses came at the hands of highly ranked teams in No. 6 San Jose State and No. 3 California. Indiana dominated SJSU for the majority of the contest before letting a two-goal fourth quarter lead slip away, falling 12-9 to the Spartans. In the 8-5 loss to California, the Hoosiers outscored the Golden Bears 5-2 in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome a six-goal halftime deficit.
CONSISTENT SUCCESS
Head coach Barry King and the Hoosiers have posted an impressive 60-7 record in CWPA play since the league was established in 2001. The Hoosiers are 40-3 since joining the CWPA Western Division in 2004.
P.O.W. TIMES TWO
Jakie Köhli was named the March 22 Western Division Player of the Week for her play during the Hoosiers final four games of their spring break road trip. Köhli had 10 goals, six assists, 14 steals, and two earned exclusions during that span. It marks the third CWPA award of the season for the reigning Western Division Rookie-of-the-Year as she also collected the March 15 Defensive Player of the Week and the February 8 Player of the Week honors.
Cassie Wyckoff was also recognized for her stellar play in the cage over the past week, being named Player of the Week in NCAA.com's WWP Notebook by Trevor Freeman. Wyckoff notched a career-high 17 saves in the 10-9 win at Pacific, while making a total of 36 saves in three games during the week. She also dished out four assists and made four steals.
LEADING THE WAY
Among all schools entering statistics into the NCAA Water Polo Statistics database, Jakie Köhli leads the nation with 59 goals on the season. Nicole Redder is eighth among the scoring leaders with 41. Köhli surpassed Kristin Stanford's 57 (2001) for tenth on the Indiana single-season scoring list. The single-season record for goals is 77 by Brooke Zimmerman (2008).
POWER PLAY COMBO
Lauren Wyckoff and Kara Butler continue to provide the Hoosiers with 6-on-5 opportunities on a regular basis. The pair combined for 18 earned exclusions during the spring break trip, including three five-meter penalties earned. Wyckoff also posted three hat tricks during the six game stint in California. She leads the team with 38 kick-outs earned on the season, while Butler is second with 32.
NATIONAL STAGE
The CWPA Western Division regular season finale on Saturday, April 3 between Indiana and Michigan will be broadcast nationally by the Big Ten Network. The 1 p.m. ET contest in Ann Arbor, Mich. between the two division rivals will be shown on a same-day tape-delay at 9 p.m. ET.
