BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Junior Lauren Wyckoff and senior Katie Carson were honored by the Collegiate Water Polo Association today for their standout play during the Hoosiers' four wins at the Fluid Five. Wyckoff was named the March 29 Western Division Player of the Week, while Carson grabbed the Defensive Player of the Week award.
Wyckoff recorded 10 goals, eight assists, seven steals, and six earned exclusions during the undefeated weekend for the No. 16 Indiana Hoosiers (17-7, 2-0 CWPA West). Wyckoff helped lead the Hoosiers to divisional victories against Gannon and Mercyhurst, as well as wins over Wagner and Cal State East Bay.
Wyckoff tallied a hat trick in the 13-1 win over Gannon, while also dishing out three assists and grabbing two steals. In the second divisional game of the tournament versus Mercyhurst, she converted a five-meter penalty shot, along with two assists, two steals, and three earned kick-outs to help the Hoosiers defeat the Lakers and move into a first place tie atop the Western Division standings with Michigan at 2-0. Wyckoff had two goals, two assists, and two steals in Indiana's 8-3 triumph over Wagner. She also earned one five-meter penalty and one kick-out in the contest.
Her performance of the weekend came on Sunday against Cal State East Bay, in which her three second period goals helped catapult the Hoosiers to a commanding 12-6 halftime lead after being knotted up, 5-5, after one quarter. She went on to finish the game with four goals, one assist, one steal, and one earned kick-out. Wyckoff also surpassed the 100 career goals mark with her first score of the game at the 3:36 mark of the opening period.
Wyckoff's scoring outburst marked the sixth multi-goal effort in her last nine games. She currently leads the team with 34 assists and 44 earned exclusions on the season, to go along with 33 goals and 19 steals. Wyckoff has 103 goals, 85 assists, and 78 steals throughout her career at Indiana.
She is the second Wyckoff to be honored by the CWPA this season, as her sister Cassie earned Defensive Player of the Week honors on February 15 and March 8. She is also the third Indiana player that has earned the Player of the Week award, with Jakie Köhli and Nicole Redder each being honored earlier this season.
Katie Carson anchored the Indiana defense for the majority of the weekend, collecting 32 saves in 80 minutes of action while also grabbing three steals to garner the division's weekly defensive award.
Carson began the weekend with five goals and a steal in one half of play during the win against Gannon. She allowed a total of two goals during the 48 minutes of divisional play at the Fluid Five.
Carson tied a season-high with 15 saves on 32 shots against Cal State East Bay, while also collecting a steal in the win.
