Match with Mexican Youth National Team Highlights 2010 Spring Schedule

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's soccer team will play six games this spring, highlighted by a match with the Under 21 Mexican National Team April 27 on Jerry Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium.
"Without question, this is going to be an exciting and challenging spring campaign," said head coach Todd Yeagley. "Having the opportunity to compete against such quality opponents will continue to help our players and staff evaluate our overall performance goals and team objectives."
The season opens Sunday, March 28 as the Hoosiers play host to Louisville in a noon contest. These teams are no strangers, having met twice in 2009, including a 2-0 victory by Indiana in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
On Friday, April 9 the Hoosiers will welcome Cincinnati to Bloomington in a 7:30 p.m. match that is part of the Indiana Soccer Coaches Symposium. Indiana will match up with another regional foe on Wednesday, April 14 when IUPUI comes to Armstrong Stadium. Match time is 7 p.m.
The Hoosiers will take part in a unique matchup with Notre Dame on Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in Ft. Wayne. The Shindigz National Soccer Festival will feature the Hoosiers and Fighting Irish in the first non-baseball sporting event played at Parkview Field since its opening in April 2009. The facility is the home of the Fort Wayne TinCaps, Class-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
Tickets purchased in advance are $7 for adults, $5 for kids (college age and under; college ID required). On the day of the game, they will be $9 for adults, $7 for kids college age and under.
Indiana matches up against NCAA College Cup finalist Akron on Saturday, April 24. The teams will play at Northern Kentucky University at 8 p.m.
Indiana closes out the spring by taking on the Under 21 Mexican National Team on Jerry Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. The time is still to be determined.
"We are very excited to once again host the Mexican Youth National Team on April 27," Yeagley said. "The exciting and entertaining play on the field along with the electric game day atmosphere have made this a fantastic event for our soccer program, Indiana University, and the city of Bloomington."
This is the fifth meeting between the squads with Indiana holding a 1-3 record against its Mexican counterparts. The international friendly last took place in 2008, with Mexico coming away with a 2-0 victory in front of nearly 5,000 fans. In 2007 the U-20 Mexican National Team down the Hoosiers by a 2-0 score in front of a crowd of 6,000 fans. Mexico won the first game in 2005 by the score of 2-1, with Heriberto Beltran scoring the game-winner in the 82nd minute. The Tricolores' would go on to win the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Cup that summer.
Indiana got its first win of the series in 2006, a 2-0 victory, behind goals from behind goals from John Mellencamp and Kevin Robson. The first two meetings involved the U-17 Mexican National Team, with the 2007 and 2008 matches coming against the U-20s.
Ticket prices for the Indiana-Mexico matchup will be announced at a later date.
