BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's soccer team will be part of an historic event this Saturday, April 17, as it faces the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a spring match held at Parkview Field in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, home of the Ft. Wayne TinCaps minor league baseball team. Game time is 7 p.m. ET. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students at the gates.
"Every match versus Notre Dame proves to be an exciting and competitive match," said head coach Todd Yeagley. "This particular match at Parkview Field will certainly have a lively atmosphere and we always enjoy competing in Ft. Wayne where we have such a great IU following."
This will be the first non-baseball sporting event held at the field since in opened in April 2009. Slightly smaller than a regulation soccer field, the 100-by-60 feet field will sit from foul pole to foul pole, covering the outfield, infringing on the warning track and brushing across second base.
Indiana is 1-0-2 in spring contests this year, with a 2-1 win over Louisville on March 28, a 1-1 tie with Cincinnati on April 9, and a 1-1 tie with IUPUI on April 14. Sophomore Will Bruin has two goals for the Hoosiers this spring, with one each from junior Andy Adlard and redshirt freshman Joe Tolen.
Notre Dame and Indiana are familiar foes, having met 33 times during fall season play since 1973. The Hoosiers have won the last three regular-season meetings against the Fighting Irish, including a 3-0 victory in South Bend last year. The teams will meet during the 2010 regular season on Oct. 6, while Notre Dame will also take part in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic Sept. 3-5.
