BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Junior Kelsey Campbell sat down with IUHoosiers.com for a question and answer session as the No. 15 Indiana Hoosiers (19-10) prepare for the CWPA Eastern Championship in College Park, Md. (April 30-May 2). The No. 3 seed Hoosiers will open the tournament against No. 6 seed Brown on Friday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
Campbell is coming off a terrific performance at the CWPA Western Championship last weekend as she tallied three goals, nine steals, and a pair of earned exclusions in two games. She doubled her career-high in the steals department, swiping eight in the 11-1 semifinal win against Mercyhurst, to go along with two scores. For the season, Campbell has totals of 29 goals, 20 assists, and 32 steals.
On what the team took away from their performance at the Western Championship:
"I think we have to take away that despite the fact that we lost to Michigan, we really put in a hard fight. We just have to come out with that fight and hope that everything comes together with us in our games. I think more than taking away from what we did last weekend, taking away from our experience at Easterns last year is even more important, not to take any games for granted and to come out hard against Brown."
On the eight steals against Mercyhurst:
"I was just making sure I was playing smart defensively. I was up in the lanes. Barry always tells us to be up in the lanes and ready to go on defense. That helped me to get some steals in there. It was pretty much just being aware on defense and anticipating where the ball was going to go."
On the intensity ramping up:
"It's a whole different level of play once we get to Easterns. Everything that we've done before then is pretty much wiped out and we're starting on a clean slate. None of the games we've had before really account for anything. We've just got to come out to that first game prepared and ready to go. We can't worry about what our score was against them last time because as we know in the past, surprises happen at Easterns so we just have to be ready to go."
On the primary focus heading into the Eastern Championship:
"I really think the key for us is confidence and being aware and knowing that we have all the ability to win Easterns and to move to the NCAAs. We have the skills there. We've put in the time. We've put in the work. We just have to be confident that it will all come together for us."
