WEEK IN REVIEW
The Hoosiers competed in the CWPA Western Division Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich. on April 24. Indiana earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament and defeated No. 3 seed Mercyhurst 11-1 in the semifinal. In the title game, No. 1 seed Michigan topped the Hoosiers 5-3 in a highly contested battle that has been the norm in the intense rivalry between the two squads. Kelsey Campbell and Kate Dunn each scored three goals during the tournament for team-high honors.
A CLOSER LOOK AT BROWN
The Hoosiers open against Brown in the first round at the Eastern Championship for the second year in a row. Indiana was upset by the Bears, 7-6, in 2009. The Hoosiers have fared well against Brown historically, winning 13 of 16 meetings between the two schools, including a 9-1 victory this season in the first round at the Elite Eight in Bloomington, Ind.
The Bears are led by a pair of high-scoring seniors in Sarah Glick and Lauren Presant. The duo accounts for 55 percent of Brown's total scoring. Glick leads the CWPA in scoring with 82 goals, while Presant's 78 is tied for second with Jakie Köhli. Goalkeeper Stephanie Laing, winner of six Northern Division Player of the Week honors, anchors the Brown defense. She has 345 saves in 893 minutes of action during the 2010 season.
RECORD BREAKER
Sophomore Jakie Köhli headed into the Western Championship semifinal against Mercyhurst needing two scores to surpass Brooke Zimmerman's single-season school record of 77 goals set in 2008. It took the Burnaby, B.C. native exactly four minutes to accomplish the feat, netting the first two goals of the contest for the Hoosiers on their way to the 11-1 win. Köhli is second in the CWPA in goals scored with 78, four shy of Brown's Sarah Glick (82) for the conference lead.
20 WINS
Head coach Barry King and the Hoosiers need one victory to notch their third consecutive 20-plus win season. It would be the 11th 20-win campaign for the Indiana program.
CENTURY MARK
The Indiana roster currently features three players with over 100 career goals (Jakie Köhli, Nicole Redder, and Lauren Wyckoff). Kelsey Campbell (98) and Kelly Palmberg (97) are both on the cusp of joining them in the century club. Palmberg is also six steals away from reaching the 100 mark for her career, while Campbell is eight shy.
DEFENSE!
Junior Kelsey Campbell doubled her career-high in steals with eight in the win over Mercyhurst to help earn the April 26 Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award. She was one steal shy of tying the school record of nine set by four different Hoosiers. The last Hoosier player to record eight steals was Deb Simone during a 7-3 win at the University of Michigan in 2000. Campbell, along with Kate Dunn, also led the Hoosiers in scoring during the weekend with three goals.
UP THE RECORD BOOK
Senior Kelly Palmberg and junior Lauren Wyckoff each moved up the Indiana top ten career assists list in recent weeks. Wyckoff's 90 career assists puts her in seventh, while Palmberg's 77 helpers is good for tenth on the all-time list. Wyckoff has 39 assists this season, which is eighth on the single-season list. Jakie Köhli has a team-high 71 steals this season, landing her in a tie for seventh on the single-season list with Janis Pardy (2006).
