Pease and Drouin Named Big Ten Athletes of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Derek Drouin and junior Sarah Pease have been named Big Ten Track and Field Athletes of the week for the week of April 18-24, the conference has announced. Pease and Drouin each won Penn Relays titles over the weekend.
Indiana director and head coach Ron Helmer said that Pease and Drouin each stepped up on a larger stage and put forth performances worthy of these honors.
"At a meet like the Penn Relays, student-athletes are dealing with the nerves and distractions that come with being in front of a much larger audience," Helmer said. "These two were able to step up and perform well in that environment."
Drouin cleared 2.22m (7-3.25) for the Penn Relay crown. He was 2.25 inches better than the rest of the field and matched his season mark. Drouin was able to clear bars on his first attempts despite a raucous and distracting crowd. He is the second IU high jumper to win the Penn crown, joining Cal Boyd, who won in 1954 with a clearance of 6-7.
Pease won the 3,000m steeplechase championship with a time of 10:16.51. She was nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Pease's Penn Relays title was the first by a Hoosier since in any event 2006. Her time is the sixth fastest in Penn Relays history, and she is the first Hoosier to win the steeplechase at the Penn Relays and just the second Big Ten athlete to win the event.
