Bloomington, Indiana - The Indiana University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce that Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass has been selected as this year's recipient of the Trevor R. Brown Award. The honor is given annually by IU student media to a member of the IU or Bloomington community who believes in student journalists, serves as an advocate of the First Amendment, and who contributes to the valuable experience of student journalists and the long-term success of Student Media at Indiana University. The award will be given at the Student Media's year-end awards ceremony on Friday, April 30th.
"It is a great honor to receive this prestigious award from students honing their craft at one of the premier journalism schools in the country", Glass said. "IU Athletics has made a commitment to further integrate the Athletics Department with the University, while also attempting to be as accessible as possible to students and the media. This recognition shows that we are making progress on both fronts".
The award is named in honor of the long-time dean of the School of Journalism Trevor R. Brown. Professor Brown was also the first recipient of the honor. Past winners of the Trevor R. Brown Award include former Dean of Students Richard McKaig and University Chancellor Ken Gros Louis.
