PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Nearly 30 hours after leaving Bloomington, the IU Volleyball program finally crawled into their beds at Hotel Roma in Prague, Czech Republic for some much-needed rest. The travel party battled past tired bodies and heavy eyes to thoroughly enjoy the first of 12 days on their European Tour.
The Hoosiers wasted little time getting to work. After checking into the hotel, they quickly hopped on one of Prague's electric trains, similar to Chicago's famous El Train, en route to the local gym for practice.
Following a two-hour practice, it was time for the Hoosiers to get a taste of Prague, both figuratively and literally. First up was an Italian-influenced restaurant featuring various assortments of pasta and pizza served "family-style," with the entire group sharing large portions of the delicious food. The consensus of the group was that the spinach Gnocchi stole the show, followed closely by a pizza pie topped with red peppers and spicy salami.
By the time dinner was over, it had passed 10 p.m. local time and was over a full day since the team loaded the bus in Bloomington. With the jet-lagged bodies in mind, the tour guide led IU on a short sightseeing walk back to the hotel. The 30-minute waltz passed through some of Prague's winding brick roads surrounded by shopping centers, castles and other architecturally-unique buildings, statues and bridges.
Indiana was originally scheduled to play the Czech Youth National Team twice, but has since been limited to just one match up. That showdown will take place on May 21 at 11 a.m. local time. The second match cancellation will allow the Hoosiers a full day of Prague sightseeing on May 22, in addition to, the sightseeing planned for after the match on the 21st.
