MARIBOR, Slovenia - The Indiana University Volleyball team battled Nova KBM Branik, a professional team from Maribor, in a five-set defeat (25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 25-21, 12-15) on Monday (May 24).
Four Hoosiers tallied double-digit dig totals while a trio a Cream and Crimson-clad players did the same in the kills category. Kelci Marschall's 12 digs paced the team while Jordan Haverly and Ashley Benson shared the kills top slot with 15 put-aways apiece.
In addition, Caitlin Cox blistered six service aces, including a three-aces-in-a-row streak while Benson led the way in the defensive frontcourt with her seven blocks.
Before the evening match, IU enjoyed an eventful afternoon atop a snowless ski mountain just outside their hotel. It began with the team participating in a team-building high ropes course, followed by a nice lunch highlighted by traditional Slovenia sausages and dipping sauces. Next up, was a trip back down the mountain involving the entire party. Each traveler had the opportunity to take up to three rides on the "Summer Bobsled" as one native described it (see video below).
The Hoosiers also shared dinner with several of the Nova KBM players following their match. The same two teams will face each other once again Tuesday (May 25) at 11 a.m. local time.
