Hoosiers Finish 18th at NCAA Central Women's Golf Regional

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Indiana women's golf team wrapped up the 2009-10 season with an 18th-place finish at the NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. The Hoosiers served as host of the three-day, 54-hole event.
USC was the top finisher with a score of 907. Joining them as qualifiers for the NCAA Championships out of the Central Regional were Arizona State (915), Purdue (931), New Mexico (936), Oklahoma State (937), Florida State (939), Oregon (939) and Kent State (940). Georgia's Marta Silva Zamora (223) and Denver's Kimberly Kim (229) earned individual slots at the NCAA Championships.
The Hoosiers posted a 325 on Saturday to finish with a three-day score of 971 (318-328-325). Freshman Jacqueline Yanch and senior Kellye Belcher were IU's top finishers as both tied for 56th with a score of 240. Yanch posted a round of 82 on Saturday after going 78-80 on the first two days. Belcher had the second-lowest round of the day for IU with an 80 on Saturday, preceded by scores of 79 and 81.
Senior Laura Nochta tied for 76th with scores of 78-82-85 (245). Freshman Pamela Burneski had the low round of the day on Sunday with a score of 78 and finished with a 247 (83-86-78). Freshman Kate Coons tied for 102nd with scores of 86-85-85 (256).
"We had a challenging week," said head coach Clint Wallman. "We did not execute the way we wanted to. That sometimes happens in golf. Now we will look to the off-season and I am excited about team coming back. This experience will be beneficial to the team as we move forward. I am glad had opportunity to play in the regional and I am looking forward to next year."
