BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Graduated senior Chris Squires has signed with the Florida Marlins, and will report to the organization's Gulf Coast League affiliate. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native was chosen by Florida in the 37th round with the 1127th overall selection in the 2010 MLB Draft.
Squires wrapped up his Indiana career as the school's all-time leader in both saves (20) and appearances (89). He matched IU's single-season record with nine saves in 2010 and set a new school record with 31 appearances. He was arguably the most important player on the team for Indiana, as he appeared in 16 of Indiana's 24 conference contests, posting a 2-2 record with a 4.73 ERA.
In 2009, he saved eight games for the Hoosiers and was a Third Team All-Big Ten selection. He had a 3.93 ERA overall, but thrived out of the bullpen, posting a 2.59 mark. He also had three saves in 18 appearances as a sophomore in 2008, and was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in his first season in an IU uniform.
