Wheatcroft Makes It Three Hoosiers in the US Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Steve Wheatcroft, a member of the IU men's golf team from 1998-2001, is headed to Pebble Beach for the 110th US Open. Wheatcroft joins recent graduate Alex Martin and 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel to create a trio of former Hoosiers qualifying for the PGA Major.

Wheatcroft played his sectional qualifier in Rockville, Md., at the Woodmont Country Club, where the top-seven players advanced. After posting rounds of 70 and 69 he found himself in a four-way tie for seventh place. Wheatcroft wasted little time in the play-off as he birdied the first hole and stamped his ticket to the US Open.
