BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Several athletes with Hoosier ties are making waves throughout the world in track and field this summer. Molly Beckwith is touring Europe, running elite 800m races, where she has broken the two-minute barrier and the IU record. Derek Drouin competed at an elite invitational in preparation for the upcoming Canadian National Championships, and former Hoosier Danielle Carruthers recently knocked off the current U.S. champion in the 100m hurdles.
Beckwith is making herself known during her tour of Europe and on Sunday, she broke a 24-year-old IU record. The senior, who recently capped off her collegiate career with second in the 800m at NCAAs, has won two out of her five races since she made the trip overseas, finishing second, third and fourth in the other three. On Sunday, Beckwith accomplished a goal she held all season, clocking a time of 1:59.83 for fourth in Lignano, Italy.
