Coach Dunbar has now led the Cream and Crimson to a preseason tournament championship in each of her four years, and five tourney crowns overall at IU.
Ashley Benson was named the Most Valuable Player of the weekend, totaling 40 kills, a .423 hitting efficiency, four aces and 15 blocks during the tournament. Jordan Haverly and Caitlin Cox were also selected to the all-tournament team. Haverly averaged three kills and two digs per set to go along with a pair of service aces and six blocks. Cox, meanwhile, gathered 41 digs and four service aces on the weekend.
It was an offensive onslaught for Indiana as the Hoosiers hit at a .376 pace and out-killed the Bulldogs, 43 to 15. Haverly and Benson were Indiana's most effective kills producers with 12 put-aways apiece, while Mary Chaudoin was the most efficient attacker, posting a 1.000 hitting percentage by converting each of her four setter dumps. Taylor Wittmer and Kelci Marschall were also strong contributors to the potent offense, combining for 13 put-aways and a .500 attacking clip.
No travel plans required next week as the Hoosiers host the 2010 IU adidas Classic inside University Gym on Friday, Sept. 3 and Saturday, Sept. 4. Arkansas State, Illinois State and North Carolina State are each making the trip to Bloomington for the four-team, round-robin competition.
