BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Head Coach Sherry Dunbar announced senior middle blocker Taylor Wittmer and junior libero Caitlin Cox were elected season captains.
"I'm really happy to have Caitlin and Taylor in leadership roles for our program this year," said Coach Dunbar. "We are fortunate to have a fantastic group of kids in our program that all have leadership capabilities, but I think Caitlin and Taylor will help our program go to the next level."
Wittmer has been a main-stay in the Hoosier line-up since her arrival in Bloomington, starting 55 matches over the last two seasons. She will serve as a good role model for her teammates both on and off the court, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors each of the last two seasons as well.
Cox set a new standard for Hoosier liberos last season, breaking the school's all-time record for digs in a single season with 488. Cox is known for her fiery attitude on the court and being a vocal leader. She, too, excels in the classroom, evidenced by selection to the 2009 Academic All-Big Ten team.
Indiana begins the home portion of their schedule this weekend (Sept. 3-4), hosting the IU adidas Classic. The Hoosiers will welcome in Arkansas State, Illinois State and North Carolina State for the round-robin competition.
