Hoosiers Lose Heartbreaker to Ohio, 2-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Ohio, 2-1, on the IU Hockey Field on Saturday, Sept. 11 in Bloomington. Sophomore Shareyna Chang scored the Hoosiers' lone goal at the 38:44 mark in the second half.
After struggling in the first half and falling behind within the opening two minutes, 1-0, the Hoosiers (2-2) came out fighting in the second half and dominated possession. Within in the first three-plus minutes of the second half, IU recorded three shots and earned a penalty corner before Chang netted her first goal of the season as she played the ball off an Ohio player to tie Indiana with the Bobcats (2-5), 1-1, with 38:44 on the clock. The Hoosiers kept fighting, outshooting Ohio, 4-2, for the next 17 minutes before Taylor Brown scored the game-winner for the Bobcats at the 56:46 mark. She scored on a rebound from a shot taken by teammate Katherine Ballard that was saved by IU's Becky Pany.
Redshirt sophomore Morgan Fleetwood led the Hoosiers with seven shots taken, five of which were on goal. Redshirt junior Brenna Moeljadi tallied four shots, three on goal, while Chang scored IU's only goal on one shot taken on the game. Sophomore Brooke Borneman tallied two shots, one on goal, and senior Kelsey Kiper and junior Kristy McFadden each tallied a shot apiece. Pany played all 70 minutes in goal for Indiana and recorded five saves.
Indiana outshot Ohio, 16-10, and recorded 11 corners to the Bobcats' six.
The Hoosiers return to action on Friday, Sept. 17, when they travel to Oxford, Ohio, to take on Miami at 5 p.m. ET. Indiana will then host Missouri State on Sunday, Sept. 19, at Noon ET on the IU Hockey Field.
