Women's Golf Places Sixth at Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - In its first tournament of the 2010-11 season, the Indiana women's golf team posted a sixth-place finish at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. this weekend. The Hoosiers closed out play with a round of 311 on Sunday to finish with a three-round total of 925 (308-306-311).
Florida International took home the team title with a score of 896, followed by Iowa State at 907. Western Michigan and Northwestern tied for third at 919, with Michigan fifth at 924.
"This was a difficult course but we got good play from Pam and Kate," said head coach Clint Wallman. "We missed out on some opportunities and didn't cash in on the ones we did have. It is a good starting point, not just for our tournament next week in New Mexico, but for the rest of our fall season."
Sophomore Pamela Burneski led the Indiana lineup from start to finish and placed tied for seventh after posting a round of 77 on Sunday. She finished the two-day tournament with a score of 227 (75-75-77). Sophomore Kate Coons has the team low round on Sunday with a 75 and finished tied for 12th with a score of 228 (77-76-75).
Appearing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Sophie Hayashi carded a 79 on Sunday to place tied for 40th (78-79-79/236). Sophomore Jacqueline Yanch and junior Kristtini Cain tied for 48th with three-round totals of 238. Yanch posted an 80 on Sunday (78-80-80), with Cain carding an 81 (81-76-81).
The Hoosiers are back in action next weekend at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 17 and 18.
