BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's tennis opened the Hoosier Classic with flair, finishing the day just one doubles loss shy of flawless. Evgeniya Vertesheva and Leslie Hureau led the way for IU, both advancing to the semifinal of the top flight in singles and to the semifinal in doubles.
Vertesheva defeated Cincinnati's Ksenia Slyncko by a 6-4, 6-1 final score to advance in singles and then combined with Kayla Fujimoto for an 8-2 win over LSU's Kylie Adamek and Ebie Wilson in doubles.
Hureau took down Petra Niedermayerova 6-2, 6-4 in singles and joined Charlotte Martin for a pair of doubles wins. They took down Lindsey Lonergan and Caitlin O'Gara of Cincinnati 8-3, and then they bettered Carmen Borau and Antea Huljev of Kansas State by a score of 8-6.
In second-flight singles, Fujimoto and Katya Zapadalova advanced. In the third flight, Martin and Sophie Garre moved on.
