BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - It can't get much better than IU Women's Tennis' start to the 2010-11 season, winning 90.7 percent of their matches during the three-day Hoosier Classic. As a team, the Hoosiers won 19 of 21 singles contests and 10 of 11 doubles matches.
The Hoosiers won each of the four singles flights they were competing in. Leslie Hureau (Flight 1), Charlotte Martin (Flight 3) and Diana Kyllmann (Flight 5) were each triumphant in three straight matches en route to flight championships. In addition, Kayla Fujimoto and Katya Zapadalova were also three-time winners. After both advanced to the Singles Flight Two finals, they picked up additional victories over a pair of Cincinnati Bearcats.
Tack on wins for Evgeniya Vertesheva and Sophie Garre, and it gives IU a perfect 7-0 final day of the tournament.
In doubles play, the Cream and Crimson were even more impressive. In total, IU dropped just one of 11 doubles matches.
The Hoosiers now take nearly a month-long break from competition. Next up for Indiana is a tournament at the University of Kansas from Oct. 22-24.
