BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On the heels of a four-goal weekend, including three scores against No. 5 UCLA, Indiana junior forward Will Bruin is the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
It is the first Big Ten Player of the Week honor for Bruin.
Bruin recorded his first career hat trick with three goals as Indiana posted its first win of the season on Sunday with a 5-1 victory over UCLA on Sunday in a match that was broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Bruin had seven shots in the match, six of which were on frame. His first goal of 2010 came on Friday night with the lone score in a 2-1 double overtime loss to California.
Bruin currently leads the Big Ten in points (eight) and goals (four) and is nearly halfway to his 2009 goal total of nine just two matches into the season.
National pundits have also taken notice of Bruin's performance as he was named the Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week.
The Hoosiers (1-1) begin a five-game road swing this weekend as they travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Cal Poly and No. 14 Drake at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament on the campus of Notre Dame. Both games will have live-streamed audio on IUHoosiers.com with Mike Glasscott calling the action. In-game updates will also be provided on www.twitter.com/IUMensSoccer.
